Timing and Info
Welcome to Five Girls Farm and thank you for your interest in our beef!
We have 3 head, raised by 5 Girls, going to slaughter that will be available in mid-February, 2026, pricing below. Contact us soon with questions or commitments, while some are still available!
Our next butcher date of 4 head is mid-June, 2026.
Pricing Update:
Because feeder and input costs continue to rise (our calves have increased from about $800 to $1,400 in the last two years), our 2026 pricing reflects the real cost of raising high-quality, locally finished beef.
We appreciate your understanding and are committed to keeping pricing competitive and transparent for our premium grass-fed, grain-finished beef.
Bulk beef still provides tremendous value. Based on a typical take-home mix of 30% ground beef and 70% steaks, roasts, ribs, brisket, etc., most families save $1,000–$1,500 when buying a whole beef compared to purchasing the same cuts at today’s retail prices.
Whole Beef
$4.40/lb hanging, plus $200 butcher fee, and processing fees at Byron Center Meats
1/2 or 1/4 Beef
$4.75/lb hanging, plus $100 or $50 butcher fee, and processing fees at Byron Center Meats
1/8 Beef
$5.25/lb hanging, plus $25 butcher fee, and processing fees at Byron Center Meats
*If available. 1/8 gets “standard” cuts, but we still need a form filled out for contact info for BCM
Beef Weights & Costs – Explained
A typical hanging weight of a whole animal is maybe 650 lbs, so you can make your calculations from that. e.g. 1/2 beef would be approximately $1900 with all farmer and processing costs involved, which would net about 200 lbs of retail meat. Possibly up to 65 lbs would be ground, leaving around 135 lbs of steaks, roasts, brisket, etc. The final retail weights will be higher if you choose bone-in cuts.
If you only want 1/8 beef, you may be interested in finding a partner to share a form for 1/4, which will save both on the processing and farmer costs to you.
Freezer Information – Will it fit?
If you’ve never purchased freezer beef before, you may wonder; “How much freezer space do I need?” There are varying rules of thumb, based on the fat of the animal, boneless vs bone-in cuts, etc. A SAFE, general bet is to assume about 1 cubic foot per 35 lb of finished cuts, or about 16 cubic feet per whole animal.
For example, THIS $200 chest freezer from Menards would easily hold 1/4 beef, with room to spare for extras. THIS $675 freezer would hold an entire beef with room to spare.
This means your retail savings on purchasing beef wholesale is actually more than the cost of a chest freezer. Buy wholesale beef, have better taste, be healthier, and cover the up front cost of your freezer in savings!
